Introduction to HollyLisle.com
I believe in paying forward.
The majority of this site (and the linked Forward
Motion writers' community,
which I put together some years ago and which now has its own site) is
dedicated to my attempt to do just this -- to show my thanks to the
people who helped me find the way to do what I love for a living by
helping others do the same.
This is a big site. I never remember quite how big until I check the Site
Map to make sure it's updating correctly -- the site
map is a good, quickoverview of what's available on the site.
Readers is the link to Tangible
Magic for Readers, which is both an introduction to my work
and an entry into the community of people who enjoy it. (Currently
any fan discussions take place in the FM Community, but someday I
may end up doing a fan board, if numbers warrant.) Although my work
is tough to categorize (I've written high, dark, and contemporary
fantasy,
hard SF, and non-fiction, among other things) I do have a theme that
ties
my books together. I write adventures in which strong women and strong
men are pitted against terrifying obstacles, and in which their hope
and
idealism and courage and faith and intelligence are their only real weapons.
My themes focus on personal responsibility, the power of the individual
to effect change, and the power of love, honor, and courage to transform.
If you want to write fiction for a living, I've created Forward Motion
for you. Forward Motion consists of two basic sections -- the Articles
and Workshops section, listed simply as Writers
on the navigation bar above, in which I offer essays on my own
experiences in writing professionally as well as workshops that you can
use to improve your own work; and, the Forward Motion Community,
which is huge and sprawling and very busy.
Author will tell you
a bit about me, give you links to free novels that I've made available
online -- one is still in print and still selling very well, the other
is sadly out of print now, but I like it a lot -- let you look over my
growing bibliography, and offer some other interesting personal links.
Contact is an e-mail form
you can use to contact me directly. The address will be current, and the
form headers will help me identify your e-mail as not spam -- definitely
an issue. I end up weeding out a LOT of spam.
Search
the site (top right corner of any page) if you have a specific bit of
information or a specific topic you want to find. This link will take
you to the
site
search,
which
does
not search the forums. However, it also offers a link to the forum search
if you think you're likely to find the information you want there.
